It may be an age old discussion, but it is one that is still going on between the world’s biggest movie hubs. The splendor of Hollywood or the tradition of Bollywood, how easy is the choice for you?
Recently King Khan was defending the honours of the desi movie industry at the Berlin Film Festival, where he was promoting his number one hit movie ‘Om Shanti Om’. The actor stressed the superior art of story telling in Bollywood movies, compared to the sometimes exaggerated special effect filled Hollywood blockbusters and added Hollywood could learn a lot from Indian fim makers.
On the other hand Bollywood doesn’t seem able to convince the western masses, largely due to anold fashioned approach to making films. Story lines resemble each other and Bollywood productions tend to be long movies, often filled with singing and dancing performances that fit in the story.
Although the skepticism might be mutual (no other than Hindi movies in the latest Indian Film Awards), we also see a growing cooperation between Bollywood and Hollywood. The best example being Hollywood actress Rachel Shelley starring in the Bollywood production ‘Lagaan’ or the the films Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge and Kal Ho Naa Ho dealing with the overseas experience. This conversion of movie styles doesn’t make the choice easier between Hollywood or Bollywood.
So evaluating pro’s and con’s of both Bollywood and Hollywood which movie imperium fits your taste best?
