Bollywood's Best Choreographers

Bollywood's best choreographers

A Bollywood movie can barely run without dance sequences in it. Except for some classic movies like Black, Bollywood flicks cannot do without dance numbers. Let's take a look at some of the best choreographers of the industry.

Shiamak Davar:

Nobody thought that this back bencher would be such a big man today. Shiamak believes that dance has immense healing powers. He runs a very large number of dance schools across the country and has people of all ages attending his classes. He also runs a not for profit dance institute and trains underprivileged and handicapped children. A very amicable person, Shiamak has choreographed dance numbers in movies like Taal, Kisna, Bunty aur Bubli, Dil to Pagal Hai, Dhoom 2 and Taare Zameen Par. All of these movies are known more for their brilliant dance sequences than anything else.

Farah Khan:

Farah Khan, sister of famous TV comedian Sajid Khan has seen immense success in her career as a choreographer. She has hit movies like Kaho na pyar hai, Dil chahta hai, Kaal, Kabhi khushi kabhi gum, Monsoon wedding, Krrish, Dilwale dulhaniya le jayenge and Main hoon na to her credit. Farah turned director when she directed the movies Main Hoon Na and Om Shanti Om. Now a mother of triplets, Farah has decided to take a break to look after her babies. Let's see what this talented lady bounces back with!

Saroj Khan:

Saroj Khan shot to fame when she choreographed actresses like Sridevi and Madhuri Dixit. With more than 200 films and many awards to her credit, Saroj has shown her remarkable talent in songs like Beta, Chandni, Bazigar, Darr, Khamoshi, Pardes, Soldier, Devdas, Sathiya, Veer Zara, and more recently, Fanaa and Guru. Age doesn't stop this super strong woman; she may be a grandma now, but she is going to continue dancing till she can move!

Raju Khan:

Son of acclaimed choreographer Saorj Khan, Raju Khan has choreographed more than 1500 songs. The most popular of them of course are numbers from the super hit movie Lagaan, and Krrish.

Vaibhavi Merchant:

She is the grand daughter of pioneer choreographer Sri HariLal Merchant. Vaibhavi won the National Film Award for Best Choreography for the song Dhol Baje from the movie Hum Dil de chuke sanam. She has choreographed very successful numbers from movies like Dhoom, Swades, Dil Maange more, Bunti aur Babli, No entry, Rang de basanti, Dhoom 2, Aja nach le, Jhoom barabar jhoom and Love story 2050.

Remo:

Remo has choreographed songs in movies like Aankhein, Aksar, Shabd, Waqt, Just married, Pyar ke side effects, 36 China town, Fight Club, Dhoom and Jo Bole so nihal.

Ahmed Khan:

Rangeela, Rakshak, Pardes,Taal, Gulam, Bus itna sa khas hai, Mere yaar ki shaadi hai, Salaam Namaste Jab we met and a whole lot more; Ahmed Khan is truly a rare gem to Bollywood. Of all his work, Rangeels won himmaximum credit and he took off at full speed after that.

Malika Slaps Rather Than Giving Kisses

Mallika Sherawat has been shooting for her upcoming movie, Ugly Aur Pagly and that's certainly something she enjoyed! In the movie she slaps actor Ranvir Shorey 99 times to finally reward him with one kiss. Considering not every slap has been succesfully filmed after the first take, Mallika has been slapping around quite a lot! Don't make it a habit Mallika!

Bollywood Dance World Record on Trafalgar Square

A lot of Bollywood Dancing in London at the Big Blast Dance Festival. Almost 300 hundred Bollywood fans broke the world record for "Biggest Bollywood Dance", when they danced all together to the tunes of the popular movie item song 'Om Shanti Om'.

For the advanced Bollywood dancers it might have been a bit of an easy routine dance, but in order to get people from all ages and backgrounds shaking to Indian tunes, one has to keep it simple.

Bollywood Dance

Some reactions from the public:

Kalpana Halai, from Stanmore.
"It was an amazing experience and really good to be taking part in a world record attempt."

Trystan Ferriday, from Clapham

Ode to Bollywood Diva's

Bollywood’s charming and charismatic ladies know their way around everything too well. Their life is full of pomp, show, pamper, fashion, glitz, glam, paparazzi, endorsements and of course massive pay cheques!

None of them had it easy though. Try looking at some pictures of the best Bollywood actresses, when they all started out and those of what they are now! Bollywood is nothing without style, glitz and fashion. These ladies in Tinsel town are trend setters, especially in the world of fashion.
let’s take a look at some of divas, as they hold the men of the world in rapt attention.

Former Miss World, and current Mrs. Bachhan, Aishwarya Rai is undoubtedly one of the woman beautiful women the world has ever seen. She swept away the title with ease and grace, but her acting skills took a whole lot of time to blossom. With her initial movies bombing at the box office, the public was quite convinced this beauty doesn’t have what it takes. They’ve all been bombarded now, as Aishwarya has grown to become the face that people relate India with! Way to go Ash, but it would be wonderful if you could also learn to be punctual !

When Kajol stepped into Bollywood, she certainly didn’t have the looks or the height to be there! But this talented diva didn’t care and decided to let her talent do all the talking. She steals the show with sheer talent and presentation skills. And now, Kajol looks stunning! The magic of fashion and make up! She had the skill, they gave her the looks.

Rani Mukherjee, Kajol’s cousin had a disatrous entry too, when her debut movie ‘Raja Ki Ayegi Baraat’ bombed at the box office. But this short, sweet diva is now one of the most sought after actresses and is acclaimed for her fantastic acting skills and versatility.

Kareena Kapoor stepped in, following the footsteps of her sister Karishma, as a plump, haughty girl. She definitely has improved a lot since she started, both with her acting as well as her presentation, although she continues to remain her stuck up, puffed up self. She seems to have been able to increase her fan population multifold, since her movie ‘Tashan’, Looks like a movie doesn’t have to do very well for a star to make an astonishing comeback with!

Bollywood also happens to be the place for Miss India(s) to earn their bread. They already are high profile faces that everyone recognises, and that just makes it so much simpler for them to reside in Tinsel town! The list is endless…..

Shikha Swaroop, Namrata Shirodkar, Pooja Batra, Aishwarya Rai, Sushmita Sen, Diana Hayden, Nafisa Joseph, Yukta Mookhey, Gul Panag, Priyanka Chopra, Lara Dutta, Diya Mirza, Celina Jaitley, Neha Dhupia, Tanushree Dutta, not to forget, the gorgeous Nutan, Leela Naidu, Zeenat Aman, Nafisa Ali, Sangeeta Bijlani, Meenakshi Sheshadri, Juhi Chawla and a lot more to come!

Bollywood perhaps would not be the same, if it weren’t for the beauties of the 70s. Asha Parekh, Sharmila Tagore, Hema Malini, Zeenat Aman, Mumtaz; they stole a heart too many! Current actresses should draw inspiration from these divas who were naturals at their work!
A special mention has to be made of the most popular Bollywood Diva- Helen. Very few of us know that this amazingly talented Diva is of Anglo- Burmese origin. Her full name is Helen Richardson Khan. With her outstanding dancing skill and her cabaret performances in Bollywood, Helen is a goddess! She puts the current actresses to shame. Helen had a tough financial crunch in the initial years of her life, but shot to fame and all star treatment with her impeccable flair. Hats off to this Diva!

You Watched Too Many Bollywood Movies When...

1. Your mother in law looks like the biggest devil in the universe.

2. You begin to search for hair strands in your husband’s jacket.

3. Your vocabulary suddenly has a lot of Hindi swearing.

4. You cannot handle a story that doesn’t end with singing a song running around trees.

5. Every love story has to be a triangle.

6. Every girl who gets out of her house is secretly going to meet her boyfriend.

7. You know that if you’re hit by a bullet, you’re not going to die.

8. You think one of your kids will be a law breaker and the other will join the police force, nab him and not let him get away. Send him to jail and protect the law!

9. You’re convinced your kids are going to kill each other over your property.

10. You’re sure that your son can never get a woman better than you.

11. You yell at your son because he is going to marry a woman (he probably hasn’t even seen yet) who will wear mini skirts in your house and make you do all the work. (and have a whole bunch of boyfriends)

12. Your only aim in life is to get your daughter married or she might grow smarter with age and no one will want to marry her after that.

13. Your next aim in life is to pester your kids for grandkids.

14. You’re scared you’ll get pregnant before you’re married and then your boyfriend will ditch you for his “real” girlfriend.

15. Any movie that lasts less then three and a half hours is a terrible movie and should never have been made.

16. You know you’ll find your dream man on a train or a plane. You’ll get separated for a while but will eventually meet each other and eventually get married, with a lot of family drama of course.

17. You see it rain and wonder when your Prince Charming is going to come on his white horse, and ride away with you.

18. You begin making big sacrifices for your sister, especially when it comes to boys!

From rags to riches all the way to royalty – a Bollywood success story that could be yours!

To be a star in Bollywood, you need:

a) high profile parents whose money or reputations can open doors
b) political backing
c) to win a major international beauty pageant [no talent needed]

Not too many people today know or remember that merely a decade or so ago, none of the above three options were required in order to make it into the largest film industry in the world. Starry-eyed young women and earnest young men stepping off onto the platform of Victoria Terminus in Bombay and dreaming dreams of stardom…well, those days are long gone –or are they? Though too many people will tell you that the world is a much less innocent place than it used to be back then, there is still hope for budding celebrities out there.

Think ‘Bollywood success story’ and what comes into your mind? Abhishek Bacchan, Saif Ali Khan, Aishwarya Rai and Hrithik Roshan? That list is enough to dishearten any ordinary Joe, or Jaiveer, as the case may be. Each of these bright young actors is either very-well connected, has a family with roots in the film industry or is too beautiful to be a mere citizen. They’ve got celebrity stamped on them, but where’s the glory in being a celebrity by association?

Commonly called the King Khan of Bollywood, Shah Rukh Khan has been a major player in Bollywood for so long that people have forgotten his once humble status. Son of middle class parents in Delhi, Khan literally tumbled out of nowhere. In an age when film stars were treated like gods and a few families controlled a film industry that was (and still is) heavily influenced by the underworld, his unconventional image and steady climb to the top are proof that talent and perseverance are still valuable commodities in Bollywood.

From middle-class Muslim boy with no connections, no money but lots of talent to the so-called Tom Cruise of Indian cinema is certainly no mean achievement! Khan’s phenomenal success story just goes to show that being a star isn’t impossible – it’s just something that requires you to be smart, talented and willing to be different.

If you can sing, dance or act, this is the perfect platform for you – upload your video and perhaps yours will be the next success story that everyone’s talking about!

Bollywood Mom's Take Over!

Being a mom is the greatest gift a woman can have! And that is no different with Bollywood beauties!

Malaika Arora Khan

Super model Malaika Arora is undoubtedly Bollywood’s hottest mom; looks like she’s been dipped in bronze and is just seeped in style and vigour and she does it all with great buoyancy and poise.

Sushmita Sen

Former Miss Universe, super model and super mom Sushmita Sen proved to the whole world that she’s not just another glam star, when she adopted her daughter Renee, in the year 2000.

Madhuri Dixit

This Padma Shri recipient and legendary Bollywood beauty has two sons, Arin and Ryab. She broke several hearts in the country when she married cardiac surgeon, Dr. Nene. She says she wanted to have a dozen kids but just gave up the idea after two!

Mahima chaudhary

Kajol

This mama may not have the height, or the flawless beauty, but she steals the show with her screen presence and sheer talent. She married actor Ajay Devagan. Her career was going great guns when she suddenly opted out and slipped into the Mummy Track and says she wants to have more kids!

Karishma Kapoor

"Don't Worry Be Happy", New Bollywood Comedy

It looks like all the best comedians of Bollywood have come together for the upcoming Hindi flick, “Don’t Worry, Be Happy”. With a star cast that includes Rajpal Yadav, Hemanth Pande, Murali Sharma, Shakti Kapoor, Asrani and Prem Chopra, this seems like a movie to really look forward to.

In spite of being outstanding actors and comedians, these artists have not been spared controversies and media glare. Here’s some juicy gossip for you to chew on.

Rajpal Yadav started out his career with a Ram gopal Verma film, and so, quite naturally, he is known for his eccentric comedy roles and violent villain roles. He was appreciated for the roles he played in some movies, like in ‘Waqt: The Race Against Time’ for example, while some were absolute disasters. If you have made the mistake of watching the movie ‘Ladies Tailor,’ you’ll know exactly what that means!

While Hemant Pande is not very popular, his skill cannot be denied. Let’s see what this ‘Krrish’ actor can do this time.

Good at playing roles of comedians and villains, Murali Sharma’s performance is something we look forward to. Quoting him, "I had read somewhere that the life you live is the choices you make. And I want to live a good life as an actor". Well, it’s for us to wait and see if he does or not! Good luck to him!

What does one say about Shakti Kapoor? He holds the world record for starring in the maximum number of movies; hold your breath, 422! And guess what, he won one award, for best comedian, for the movie Raja Babu. Shakti was swallowed into a huge, nation famous controversy in 2005, when he allegedly took sexual favours from a reporter, posing as an aspiring actress, and promised her fame in return. He claims it was all a planned scheme to trap and defame him; that he is innocent and that the videotape on which his actions were caught is all bogus. As always, it created a huge stir and then died down.

Prem Chopra and Ansari are legendary actors and continue to work with zest and fervor. They’ve both have excellent movies to their credit and their skills and talent has always been lauded.

The most interesting part of the whole thing is that you can star in this movie with all these great people. www.desitara.com is must visit. They are on the lookout for actors, singers and dancers to be associated with this movie. So if you have the talent, the zeal and the enthusiasm; and if you want to be a star, well, here’s your big chance! Enter the contest and give it your best, you could end up singing, dancing or acting in a big Bollywood film!

The Magic of Cricket Players and Bollywood Stars

Indians are crazy about two things – Bollywood and Cricket; and more recently, tennis, football, hockey as well. Sometimes it seems Bollywood and sport stars are the most powerful people in the country! They say it and we do it. And we like it that way! What cannot be ignored is the ever existing chemistry between the two. There seems to be an undeniable connection and attraction between the two sleep deprivers. Most of these relationships are plain heartbreakers; or are they publicity stunts?? Gossip mongers just love the connection between the sports and Bollywood, and these stars know it all too well! Hmm…

Take a look at some of these celebrity couples!

Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi and Sharmila Tagore:

The Nawab of Pataudi seems to have done an excellent job in wooing Bollywood beauty and head of the India Censor Board, Sharmila Tagore. This is one of the very few sports-bollywood combinations that have actually lasted. True love is what keeps this duo going!

Mohammad Azharuddin and Sangeeta Bijlani:

Azharuddin may have been dropped from the Indian Cricket team for match fixing scandals, and divorced his wife, but that only made him more famous! Sangeeta Bijlani was crowned Miss India in 1980 and was not a great hit at Bollywood, which is THE destination for all Miss India(s)! The two glam stars got married and now run their own business together.

Mahima Chawdhary and Leander Paes:

Model – Actres Mahima Chawdhary dated tennis star Leander Peas and they hit the gossip headlines. She was spotted at matches that he played and they were sensational! With a load of speculations as to the cause of their break up, Mahima is now married to a high profile Mumbai based architect and Paes is, well, playing for the country.

Nagma and Sourav Ganguly:

Ex Captain of Team India has had his share of controversies. Before being dropped by the Indian Coach and creating a revolution of support across the country, Sourav “dada” had an alleged affair with actress Nagma. His relationship with his wife Dona turned sour and Sourav kept mum about the whole thing, hoping, probably, that he could keep himself out of the media glare, save his reputation and his marriage. Well, the marriage was saved, but Nagma confessed it all and Sourav was left mum, just as he liked it.

Ravi Sahstri and Amrita Singh:

The ex Indian cricketer, and Bollywood actress Amrita Singh had an affair. The all round player, known for his excellent sportsmanship and dashing looks, stays busy with his successful commentating career now. Amrita Singh went on to marry, much younger Saif Ali Khan and Ravi and she “amicably” split ways. Of course, Saif and Amrita split ways too and Saif is now with much younger Kareena! So much for true love!

Kapil Dev and Sarika:

The great Kapil Dev, who led India to win its only cricket World Cup in 1983, had a country famous affair with actress Sarika, who later went on to marry Tamil actor Kamal Hasan. And then of course, Sarika and Kamal got divorce too. No surprise, is there?

Imran Khan and Zeenat Aman:

Imran Khan, the drop dead handsome cricketer from Pakistan stole a heart too many. He brought glamour to the game of the bat and the ball. Imran had a major fling with Bollywood Goddess Zeenat Aman and they were a smashing sensation. He went on to marry Jemima Goldsmith and later split with her as well.

Reena Roy and Mohsin Khan:

Super Bollywood actress Reena Roy married Pakistan Cricket star, Mohsin Khan, when her career was at its zenith. They had a daughter but sadly, the marriage ended very quickly, throwing Reena out of her gained position in Bollywood. It took her a long while to bounce back, but oh well, all part of being a celebrity.

Vivian Richards and Neena Gupta:

Neena Gupta was a not – so – well known Bollywood actress. She shot to fame overnight when the world discovered that she had given birth to Viv Richard’s daughter! This bold woman openly said she wanted a child with Sir Richards, and she got it. They had a brief relationship and then went separate ways.

The newer, fresher Bollywood – Sports couples:

The more recent couples include Shahid Kapoor and the beautiful Sania Mirza; Yuvraj Singh and Kim Sharma; Zaheer Khan and Isha Sharvani; Amrita Arora and Usman Afzal; Sammera Reddy and Ishant Sharma. It’s for us to wait and watch, what happens to these happening couples!

Bollywood star Tania Zaetta accused of sex with SAS Soldiers

Tania Zaetta, the beautiful Aussie actress we all know from Bollywood movies Bunty Aur Babli, and Salaam Namaste has been openly accused of having sex with several soldiers of the Australian Defense Force. This would have happened on a 17-day tour through Afghanistan, where the star performed to boost the troops moral. How exactly she boosted the moral is now the question.

Tania from her side denied all allegations and called it ‘the most ridiculous story she had ever heard’. In a TV an interview she also added the claim was "horrible, disgusting, vicious and nasty”. She even explained that the entertainment tour in Afghanistan was so busy, there would not have been time for sex anyway. This was confirmed by the “The Wolverines lead singer John Clinton: “"I've heard of quickies, mate, but you'd have to be really quick — we didn't have time to do anything."

A letter intended to inform the Australian Defense Minister about the matter had been leaked in the Australian press earlier and started a wave of protest concerning privacy issues. Yesterday evening the Defense department finally apologized for the incident.

Hollywood or Bollywood?

An interesting comparaison between the Hollywood and Bollywood film industries. How difficult is the choice for you?

Hollywood or Bollywood?

It may be an age old discussion, but it is one that is still going on between the world’s biggest movie hubs. The splendor of Hollywood or the tradition of Bollywood, how easy is the choice for you?

Recently King Khan was defending the honours of the desi movie industry at the Berlin Film Festival, where he was promoting his number one hit movie ‘Om Shanti Om’. The actor stressed the superior art of story telling in Bollywood movies, compared to the sometimes exaggerated special effect filled Hollywood blockbusters and added Hollywood could learn a lot from Indian fim makers.

On the other hand Bollywood doesn’t seem able to convince the western masses, largely due to anold fashioned approach to making films. Story lines resemble each other and Bollywood productions tend to be long movies, often filled with singing and dancing performances that fit in the story.

Although the skepticism might be mutual (no other than Hindi movies in the latest Indian Film Awards), we also see a growing cooperation between Bollywood and Hollywood. The best example being Hollywood actress Rachel Shelley starring in the Bollywood production ‘Lagaan’ or the the films Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge and Kal Ho Naa Ho dealing with the overseas experience. This conversion of movie styles doesn’t make the choice easier between Hollywood or Bollywood.

So evaluating pro’s and con’s of both Bollywood and Hollywood which movie imperium fits your taste best?

5 Reasons Why You Want To Be A Star

Stardom seems far fetched for you? You despise paparazzi and cherish your privacy? Stars look like hollow caricatures to you, but you’ve got talent? After you have read this 5 reasons, you might want to think again of being a star!

Why you absolutely want to become a star…

  1. You live to perform, so why not perform to live? Money shouldn’t be your primary motivator to reach the status of a star, but be realistic, making a living of what you like to do? This might be true for many other professions too but nothing beats to survive solely on your performing talent, so go for it.
  1. Because you just love the attention, of course! Others prefer to play computer games, but you are a public lover, a stage artist, an applause junkie. That alone is enough to completely dedicate yourself to the noble quest of stardom and get your daily dose of adrenaline on stage.
  1. You have a pronounced opinion you want to share with the world. Engaged in voluntary work? Worried about poor working conditions in developing countries? As a star you have an impact where others don’t, use your future star status as a means to improve your environment and step into the footsteps of world saver artists like Madonna, George Clooney or Angelina Jolie.
  1. Because everybody deserves a piece of your talent. As a talented performer you are deeply moved by the amount of rubbish that is everyday being released in the music industry. You feel the urge to get this average up by making your talent public and make at least somebody’s day better. We thank you by all our heart in advance.
  1. Finally, you want to be a star, because as talented as you are, you are still single. Judging the pop scene nowadays you agree this might be the only reason why many artists are actually trying to breakthrough, but we must say that it helps. Nothing will add more sex-appeal to your personality than a good dose of guts, a stunning appearance on stage and your undeniable talent!

Good luck to all of you potential stars!
